During Hispanic Heritage Month, we join our members and employees in celebrating the history and contributions of American residents whose predecessors came to this country from Latin America and Spain. During this time, we are highlighting Hispanic employees on our website. We also host webinars to help employees learn more about Hispanic culture.
Did you know:
- Hispanic Heritage Month had its origin 54 years ago when President Lyndon Johnson declared Hispanic Heritage Week?
- That the week expanded to a month under President Ronald Reagan?
- And that Hispanic Heritage Month became law in August 1988?
Unlike most holiday observations that begin and end in the same month, Hispanic Heritage Month starts September 15 and ends October 15. Why? September 15 is the anniversary of independence for Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September 18, respectively.
Our philosophy in helping members of the South Florida Hispanic community meet their life goals is rooted in education. In some cases, Latinos have been underrepresented in receiving the financial help they need. It is well documented that non-native English speakers have faced challenges with predatory lending practices and unfavorable financing options.
Here at Tropical Financial, we make sure that every member receives the tools and education to create the lives they dream of. Many members of the Hispanic community come to us at different points of their financial journeys. We take the time to learn about those members’ specific needs and give them the proper tools and resources they need to feel confident they will meet their goals.
For example, we offer accounts such as Daily Rewards Debit Account. It helps members save for the future with rewards for every debit card purchase. Our loan officers help them finance their cars and homes. And our small-business department helps Hispanic entrepreneurs set up their corporate banking accounts, obtain credit to grow their businesses, and provide free financial benefits to their employees.
We take pride in celebrating the diverse heritage of our Florida Hispanic population, not just for one month out of the year, but every day.
