What You Need To Know

Looking back over the last 85 years, we have been with our members through national crises, natural disasters, and local tragedies. Through it all, we’ve been here for our members and for each other. Today, there is a lot of uncertainty surrounding the Coronavirus, and we all may be feeling on edge as the country takes steps never taken before. But know this…for 85 years we have withstood external forces testing us as individuals, as South Floridians, and as Americans.  Our members continue to be a high priority along with our employees, and to that end we will be implementing additional measures as they become necessary.

Certificate of Deposit Update

In addition to assisting you with loan payments, we also want to make you aware that if you have an active Certificate of Deposit with us, we are, until further notice, waiving the penalty for early withdraws or closures.  Please contact your local branch for details, or, click on the button below to complete a form, and a Tropical associate will be happy to contact you.

Stimulus Package Information

Recently, the CARES act was signed into law which provides relief to both consumers and small businesses.

Consumer Information
Consumers will be eligible to receive stimulus funds, provided under the CARES act. For information regarding stimulus funds please visit the IRS  and to get an idea of how much you qualify for please refer to this calculator .

Small Business Information
Small businesses will be eligible to receive loans provided under the CARES act. Please refer to the Small Business Administration’s website for information on how to obtain an SBA loan. Our team is here to help with new and existing business loans, that are non-related to the CARES act.

Protect yourself from fraud!

Unfortunately, we know from past experience that scammers use times of crisis and fear to take advantage of consumers.  In South Florida, we were already seeing an increase in fraud, particularly with identity theft and income tax fraud.

Important Reminder:  Tropical Financial representatives will never call you and ask you to give your personal information such as account number or social security number over the phone.  Unless you call us, if you are receiving these types of questions, it is probably fraud.

You can stay up-to date on the latest scams on the Federal Trade Commission’s website at. www.ftc.gov.  Search “Coronavirus” for the latest alerts and tips regarding this latest crisis.  Complaints about fraud, scams, phishing, identity theft, unwanted telemarketing, credit or debt issues, or other unfair business practices may be submitted to https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov

Internal Revenue Service (IRS) also has important updates on how to avoid identity theft on their website at www.irs.gov.  Reminder, the IRS will never:

  • Initiate contact with taxpayers by email, text or social media to request personal or financial information
  • Call taxpayers with threats of lawsuits or arrests
  • Call, email or text to request taxpayers’ Identity Protection PINs
